Mr. Corbett

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how much of the £295,000 paid as a non-recurring allocation by the North-West Thames regional health authority in 1977–78 to area health authorities for items for the mentally ill and mentally handicapped was allocated to the Hertfordshire area health authority; and on what specific items it was spent.

Mr. Moyle

, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 23 January 1979; Vol. 961, c. 110], gave the following information:

£102,000 of the £295,000 for the development of regional secure units was allocated to the Hertfordshire area health authority. This formed part of a general allocation to the AHA for improvements in the psychiatric field. Directly identifiable items are as follows:

Hill End hospital—non-recurring items of furniture and equipment 11,000
High Wick hospital—patients' comforts 600
Mentally Handicapped
Leavesden hospital—building and engineering maintenance 27,000
Harperbury hospital—extension of Occupational therapy facilities 19,000
Cell Barnes hospital—non-recurring items of furniture and equipment 17,500

Mr. Corbett

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how much of the £319,000 paid as a non-recurring allocation by the North-West Thames regional health authority in 1978–79 to area health authorities for purposes close to reasons for which money was allocated, in particular, care and improved care of difficult patients, was allocated to the Hertfordshire area health authority; and on which specific items this money has been spent by the Hertfordshire area health authority or it is planned to spend.

£23,000 was allocated to Hertfordshire area health authority and this is being utilised for the following purposes:

Hill End hospital—nursing staff 22,000
High Wick hospital—heating and furniture 1,000
Total allocated in 1978–79 23,000
