asked the Secretary of State for Defence by how much the defence budget target for 1979–80 is less than the sum estimated in the 1976 public expenditure survey, after taking into

the existing rules. Inquirers have been informed accordingly.

I regret that it would not be possible, without the expenditure of disproportionate time and effort, to ascertain how many of the £20 gratuities have been issued since 1945, or how many representations have been received from pre-1939 holders of the Military Medal.
