Mr. Kenneth Clarke

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the present cost per ton of coal mined in Great Britain and coal imported from every country from which coal is imported into Great Britain.

Mr. Eadie

The National Coal Board estimates that the operating cost of all coal produced by it during the year ending March 1979 will be approximately £24 a tonne.
