asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many United Kingdom civil servants have been appointed to Northern Ireland from Great Britain since 1972; and what percentage increase this represents.

The Northern Ireland Office, for which I am responsible, has a staff of 215 home civil servants.

The information set out below shows the number of such staff assigned to posts in Northern Ireland in each of the years since April 1973, when the Northern Ireland Office was formed, together with the total number of staff in the office in those years.

their intention to subscribe at par for 4 million ordinary shares of £1 each in Harland and Wolff Ltd. and on 8 July 1971 this subscription was duly made. It brought the total issued share capital of the company to £10,996,082, of which the Government holding represented 36.4 per cent. Prior to their requisition of these shares, the Northern Ireland Government had no shareholding in Harland and Wolff Ltd.
