asked Her Majesty's Government:

How they account for the 6,000 fall in the strength of the Special Constabulary since the publication of the recommendations of the Working Party on Special Constables dated November 1976, and whether they will give the figures for each of the following forces:

  • Northumbria;
  • Durham;
  • Cleveland;
  • Cumbria;
  • Lancashire;
  • North Yorkshire;
  • West Yorkshire; and
  • Greater Manchester,

so as to show—

(a) as at that date or other more convenient date in 1976 the number of special constables;
