HC Deb 20 June 1979 vol 968 c542W
69. Mr. Wigley

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what is his estimate of the total number of Civil Service jobs which will be lost in Wales as a result of the Government's reduction in public expenditure.

Mr. Channon

The reductions in 1979–80 public expenditure programmes announced by my right hon. and learned Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer in his Budget speech on 12 June did not include any reference to Civil Service jobs. As for the Government's intentions to secure savings on the size and cost of the Civil Service over the next few years, I refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave to the hon. Member for Totnes (Mr. Mawby) on 11 June [Vol. 968, c. 68].
