§ Mr. Jim LesterI am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that it is currently reviewing the aims and objectives of the public employment service, and that this review will include policy on jobcentres. My right hon. Friend will consider the results of the review in the light of the Government's policy on public expenditure.
As part of the reduction in spending by the MSC in 1979–80 announced on 12 June there will be a reduction in expenditure on the jobcentre programme of £1,000,000 in the current financial year. Expenditure in subsequent years is under review.
