HC Deb 18 June 1979 vol 968 c374W
Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the current involvement of Rolls-Royce in nuclear power systems; and what expenditure of public funds is involved.

Mr. Norman Lamont

I understand that Rolls-Royce and Associates Ltd. is responsible for the design and production of pressurized-water reactors, as part of the propulsion system used in Royal Naval nuclear submarines; the value of this work for the calendar year 1978 was £30 million. Although supplying plant for auxiliary gas turbines at nuclear as well as conventional power stations, Rolls-Royce has not supplied substantial equipment for the civil nuclear power programme. Rolls-Royce has formed a joint venture with Northern Engineering Industries Ltd., and Combustion Engineering Inc. of the United States, to develop export and domestic markets for pressurized-water reactors.
