asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1)if he intends to implement the Health Services Board's report on phasing out pay beds;

(2) when he proposes to introduce legislation to prevent the current phasing out of pay beds.

Under the previous Government's legislation, I have no option but to implement any proposals put to me by the Health Services Board for the withdrawal of pay beds. I shall shortly issue a consultative letter on the Government's intention to introduce legislation on private hospital practice and on the future of pay beds, placing a copy in the Library of the House.
