HC Deb 18 June 1979 vol 968 c424W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the eligibility level for family income supplement for the following groups: (a) a married couple with one child, (b) a married couple with two children,(c) a married couple with three children and(d) a married couple with four children.

Mr. Prentice

The information requested is shown in the following table. The gross income levels known as the "prescribed amounts", below which family income supplement (FIS) is payable, are the same for married couples and lone parents. My right hon. Friend has announced that, subject to parliamentary approval, FIS will be increased next November. Details, including new prescribed levels, will be given to the House shortly.

Families with: FIS prescribed amounts
(i) one child £46
(ii) two children £50
(iii) three children £54
(iv) four children £58
