§ Mr. Hoosonasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his estimate of the total financial support from public funds given in the current financial year to organised sport.
§ Mr. MonroSubject to the approval of Parliament, the grant.in.aid to the Sports Council for the current financial year will be £15.4 million. This amount may be adjusted to accommodate pay settlements. Separate grants are made to the Sports Councils in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, by the Ministers responsible.
I can give no figure for the likely total of all public expenditure on sport, which is supported in different ways by a number of Government Departments, and of course very substantially by local authorities.
