§ Mr. Hooleyasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether a divorced person may reckon the national insurance contributions of the former spouse, up to the date of divorce, towards the calculation of earnings.related retirement pension.
§ Mr. PrenticeNo. The contributions of a former spouse of a divorced person cannot count towards an earnings.related additional component of a retirement pension for that person. They may, however, be used to help that person satisfy the conditions for a basic retirement pension if he or she has not remarried. Any additional component for which a divorced person qualifies by virtue of his or her own contributions is, of course, payable in addition to the basic pension.
