HC Deb 11 June 1979 vol 968 c13W
Mr. Morgan

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will order that no charge be made to farmers for the use of Service helicopters for the purpose of saving their cattle and sheep during the recent winter.

Mr. Pattie

When the RAF helps to deliver animal food stuffs in such circumstances the bill is sent to the civil Departments concerned, namely, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Scottish Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food or the Welsh Office. It is for these Departments, rather than the Ministry of Defence, to consider passing these charges on to the farmers.
