§ Mr. MacfarlaneThe Medical Research Council estimates that its26W expenditure on the research directly related to retinitis pigmentosa for the financial year 1977–78 was £57,000, compared with £40,000 for 1976–77. Information about earlier years is not available. The council also supports a considerable amount of research in the broader fields of neurochemistry, visual physiology, genetics and cell biology which may in the long term have a bearing on retinitis pigmentosa.
