§ Mr. Altonasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what action he intends to take to reduce all levels of pollution, including the use of lead additives in petrol.
§ Mr. FoxMy right hon. Friend is concerned to encourage the reduction of environmental pollution wherever practicable. In general, detailed control is exercised by local authorities and regional water authorities; and they have to take account of economic and other factors in deciding on priorities. As regards lead in petrol, I refer to the reply given by my right hon. Friend, the Minister of Transport to the hon. Member for Birmingham, Perry Barr (Mr. Rooker) on 23 May.—[Vol. 967, c.140.]
