HC Deb 11 June 1979 vol 968 cc38-9W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will specify the sums paid under certificates of indemnity by the national museums, galleries and library in Scotland in respect of claims for loss of, or damage sustained by, objects lent to them during the financial year ended 31 March 1979, divided between (a) claims satisfied in respect of long-term loans to the permanent collections and (b) claims satisfied in respect of loans to temporary exhibitions.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

A claim of £250 was met by the Royal Scottish museum for damage to an object on long-term loan to the permanent collection.

No payments in either category were made by the other national institutions.

Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will specify the sums paid under certificates of indemnity in respect of claims for loss of, or damage sustained by, objects lent by national museums and galleries in Scotland to security-approved local authority and university museums since June 1977.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

There is at present no scheme enabling the national institutions in Scotland to make such loans under cover of certificates of indemnity.
