§ Mr. John Home Robertsonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will announce the date for starting work on the Ayton bypass; and if he will take immediate steps to improve road safety on the A1 road in Ayton, in view of increased traffic through the village since the collapse of the Penmanshiel tunnel.
§ Mr. RifkindWork should start in July on the construction of the Ayton bypass. I have no evidence that recent increases in traffic on the A1 have created difficult or dangerous conditions in Ayton, but I am willing to consider any suggestions for improving safety which the hon. Member may make.
