asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the present ratio of administrators to medical staff in the hospital service in Scotland.

The provisional figures for 30 September 1978 indicate that in whole-time equivalent terms there were 2,766 administrators and 4,970 medical staff in the hospital service in Scotland, a ratio of 1:1.8.
