HC Deb 11 June 1979 vol 968 cc24-5W
Mr. Brocklebank-Fowler

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what plans he has received from Norfolk county council to ensure that Norfolk people will have the chance to retain grammar schools; and if he will hold discussions on these proposals.

Dr. Boyson

It is now for the Norfolk education authority to determine the pattern of secondary provision within its area, taking full account of local needs and wishes. My right hon. and learned Friend has not yet received any indication from the authority whether it intends to retain or re-establish grammar schools. If the council wished to discuss its future intentions, any representations it made, including requests for ministerial meetings, would be considered in the usual way.
