HC Deb 11 June 1979 vol 968 cc80-1W
Mr. John Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give an assurance that the job introduction scheme, the capital grants scheme and fares-to-work scheme, each benefiting disabled people, will continue in their present form or will be expanded; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Jim Lester

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that the job introduction, capital grants and fares to work schemes are continuing. The low take-up under the capital grants scheme is being examined. The revised fares-to-work scheme was introduced in July 1978 and the MSC will be reviewing the effectiveness of its first 12 months operation. Similarly the job introduction scheme will be reviewed after the end of its extended experiement in February 1980. Whilst the continuation of these schemes will be considered in the light of these reviews, the Government place great importance on assisting disabled people to obtain suitable employment opportunities.
