HC Deb 27 July 1979 vol 971 cc521-2W
Mr. Kinnock

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what new vocational provision he intends to make for students engaged in further education including those benefiting from the youth opportunities programme.

Mr. Macfarlane

The provision of further education is the responsibility of the local education authorities and of the institutions which they maintain. I am confident that colleges will continue to respond to the changing needs of industry and commerce and to offer the vocational courses needed by their students. As for participants in the youth opportunities programme, any further education component in schemes is a matter initially for the MSC, but colleges are in general very ready to offer help and many are involved in making this kind of provision.
