HC Deb 27 July 1979 vol 971 c692W
Mr. Homewood

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will consider giving financial help to the parents of newborn babies in hospital special care baby units in order to help them visit their children.

Dr. Vaughan

No. I recognise the importance of encouraging visits by parents of babies being cared for in special care baby units, but it would not be justifiable to give special financial help at the present time. Parents who are receiving supplementary benefit may seek help with the costs of visiting from the Supplementary Benefits Commission.
