Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take steps to prevent the transmission of toxicara canis from dogs to children in public places.

Mr. Fox

As my hon. Friend the Minister of State, Department of Health and Social Security, said in reply to the hon. Member on 18 June, local authorities already have powers to prohibit dogs from children's play areas. We will consider with my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Home Affairs and for Social Services whether or not the risk of infection from toxicara canis warrants special action.
