§ Mr. Leightonasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will 716W circulate in theOfficial Report a table showing the total numbers employed in agriculture broken down to show the estimated numbers engaged in each of the principal sections of the industry, together with an estimate of the value and volume of output in each section for each year from 1960 to date.
§ Mr. Peter WalkerI regret that information on the numbers of workers engaged in individual sectors of the agricultural industry in the United Kingdom is not separately collected in the agriculture censuses.
Information on quantity and value of output for the period requested could be assembled only at a disproportionate cost. However, the hon. Member will find the information that he seeks subdivided according to farm crops, horticulture, livestock and livestock products for the period 1964–65 to 1975–76 (June-May years) in table 1 of the relevant volume of "Output and Utilization of Farm Produce in the United Kingdom". Copies are available in the Library of the House. Similar information, but on a calendar year basis, covering the period 1974–78 is contained in the "Departmental Net Income Calculation" (MAFF 1979) and is also available in the Library.
