HC Deb 25 July 1979 vol 971 c312W
Dr. McDonald

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he intends to implement the EEC directive on equal treatment in social security for all working wives during 1980 or only for wives who are the sole breadwinner.

Mr. Prentice

I must ask the hon. Member to await the proposals in the Bill which my right hon. Friend will be introducing later in this Session.

Dr. McDonald

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what would be the net cost of implementing the EEC directive on equal treatment in social security in 1979–80.

Mr. Prentice

The net cost of implementing the EEC directive on equal treatment in social security at average 1979–80 benefit rates would be about £25 million for a full year.
