HC Deb 24 July 1979 vol 971 c232W
Mr. Brotherton

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what are the activities of the Civil Service Sports Council Limited; how many people it employs; and what was the cost to public funds in the latest year for which figures are available.

Mr. Channon

The Civil Service Sports Council Limited acts as a central organisation for the encouraging and co-ordinating of all forms of amateur sport and social recreation throughout the Civil Service. The council employs a full-time staff of 14 at its headquarters office, and seven regional liaison officers. Local activities are carried out by area and departmental sports associations on a voluntary basis, although some of these associations may employ staff such as groundsmen and pavilion staff. The Civil Service Sports Council Limited received a grant of £420,000 from the Civil Service Department in 1978–79.
