HC Deb 24 July 1979 vol 971 c203W
Mr. Dempsey

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services to what figure the £10 Christmas bonus would need to be raised, with a view to restoring the purchasing power it realised at the time of its introduction in 1972.

Mr. Prentice

On the basis of the movement in the general index of retail prices between December 1972, when the £10 Christmas bonus was introduced, and June 1979, the latest date for which a figure is available, the bonus would have to be increased to £24.75 to restore its original value.
