Mr. Ernie Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many lone parents are receiving supplementary benefit; how many of these are men and how many are women; how many are in each of the categories divorced, separated, never married, widowed and prisoner's wife; and in each category, what is the total number of children involved, what is the average supplementary benefit payment, and how much of it is for housing costs.

The numbers of lone parents receiving supplementary benefit at November 1977 are as follows:

two-parent families are receiving supplementary benefit on the grounds that the head of household was (a) unemployed, (b) sick or disabled or (c) for some other reason; and in each category, what is the total number of children involved, what is the average supplementary benefit payment and how much of it is for housing costs.
