HL Deb 18 July 1979 vol 401 c1498WA
Lord BROCKWAY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in the light of the OECD Report on long-term economic development which stresses that advanced industrial societies will become increasingly dependent for their own prosperity on developing countries, they will reconsider their opposition to the New International Economic Order proposed by Group 77.

Lord CARRINGTON

Successive Governments have been opposed to the New International Economic Order, as advocated by the Group of 77, on the grounds that its implementation would do serious damage to the world economic system, and hence to both developed and developing countries. That remains the position of Her Majesty's Government. But, together with the other major industrialised countries, the Government recognise that constructive relations between developed and developing countries are important to the health of the world economy.

House adjourned at twenty-nine minutes past six o'clock.
