HL Deb 18 July 1979 vol 401 cc1497-8WA
Lord CRAIGTON

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps they are taking to preserve the now collapsing roof which is the habitat of the Dorset colony of the rare and protected Greater Horseshoe Bat.

The PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE, DEPARTMENT of the ENVIRONMENT (Lord Bellwin)

I am advised that the Nature Conservancy Council has been in consultation with the owner of the site on measures to safeguard the breeding of the small colony of Greater Horseshoe Bats in Dorset, but have concluded that they are unable to meet the costs of restoring the roof within their present budget.
