HC Deb 04 July 1979 vol 969 c634W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will take steps to assist the London borough of Newham which has had to remove the residents from tower blocks, which has caused difficulties financially and otherwise to the residents and the local authority.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

The local authority already has adequate powers to help the residents of the tower blocks concerned. As I stated in my reply to the hon. Member on 27 June, the Department is ready to discuss with the London borough of Newham whatever proposals the council may consider appropriate, should it think this necessary.
