HC Deb 02 July 1979 vol 969 cc418-9W
Mr. Cryer

asked the Minister of Transport (1) if he will place copies of drawings TR 65/1/108/7 and TR 65/1/108/8 of an alternative route to the proposed Airedale trunk road in the Library;

(2) if he will state the reason for the production of alternatives to the proposed Airedale trunk road in drawings numbered TR 65/1/108/7 and TR 65/1/108/8.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The drawings in question will be placed in the Library within the next few days. They are our Department's practical interpretation of a "moorland" route to the north of the Aire Valley suggested by some objectors as an alternative to the published proposals. The only purpose of the drawings is to avoid any misunderstanding between the Department and the objectors and to ensure that, when placed before the public inquiry, this route correctly represents the wishes of its sponsors so that its merits and failings can be discussed sensibly. All objectors' alternative route proposals will be publicised before the inquiry so that all concerned may be aware of them.

The Department has never proposed a "moorland" route.
