asked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether they can confirm that the Inspector at the M.25 (Leatherhead Interchange) Public Inquiry is appointed by the Lord Chancellor, in accordance with revised procedures recommended in the White Paper on Highway Inquiry Procedures (Cmnd. 7133).

No. The Inspector was appointed before the presentation to Parliament of the report on theReview of Highway Inquiry Procedures which proposed that in future my right honourable and noble friend the Lord Chancellor should nominate Inspectors for appointment by my right honourable friends the Secretaries of State for Transport and the Environment jointly.
