§ Mr. Morganasked the Secretary of State for Wales why the proposed increase in the 1979 grant to the Welsh Arts Council is only 8 per cent. as compared with an increase of nearly 18 per cent. in that proposed for the Arts Council of Great Britain.

The Welsh Arts Council is a committee of the Arts Council of Great Britain and my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science is responsible for the grant in aid to the latter body. The figure for the grant in aid for 1979–80 has not yet been announced and the sum to be allocated to the Welsh Arts Council is a matter for the Arts Council of Great Britain.
