Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for Eneregy (1) how many claims for subsidence damage have been made against the National Coal Board in each year since the Coal Mining (Subsidence) Act 1957; how many were accepted; how many were rejected; and how many were unresolved;

(2) how Much money has been paid for subsidence damage by the National Coal Board in each year since the Coal Mining (Subsidence) Act 1957; and much has been paid in each of the National Coal Board's regions;

(3) in how many cases the National Coal Board has (a) paid full costs and (b) made a contribution to the costs of surveyors' fees incurred by claimants in each year since the Coal Mining (Subsidence) Act 1957;

(4) in how many cases the National Coal Board has (a) paid full costs and (b) made a contribution to the legal costs incurred by claimants in each year since the Coal Mining (Subsidence) Act 1957;

(5) in how many cases the National Coal Board has (a) paid full costs and (b) made a contribution to the costs of loss of pay incured by claimants in each year since the Coal Mining (Subsidence) Act 1957;

(6) in how many cases the National Coal Board has (a) paid full costs and (b) made a contribution to the costs of hardship and inconvenience incurred by claimants in each year since the Coal Mining (Subsidence) Act 1957.

(7) in how many cases the National Coal Board has (a) paid full expenses and (b) paid partial expenses incurred by claimants in each year since the Coal Mining (Subsidence) Act 1957.

(8) in how many cases the National Coal Board has paid compensation to alleviate hardship when it had no legal liability in each year since the Coal Mining (Subsidence) Act 1957.

(9) in how many cases since the May agreement the National Coal Board has paid a contribution to the fees of an independent surveyor employed by a claimant for subsidence damage; what is the average amount paid; and what proportion was the average of the full costs incurred.
