HC Deb 13 February 1979 vol 962 cc454-5W
18. Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what are the latest figures available for the number of units of accommodation available for Service men's families; what proportion is currently occupied; how these figures compare with one and two years ago: and how many units have been disposed of in the last two years.

Dr. Gilbert

At the end of 1978 the number of married quarters and hirings available in the United Kingdom for Service men's families was about 95,500, of which 78 per cent. were occupied. Comparable figures for the two previous years were 98,000 at the end of 1977, of which 81 per cent. were occupied; and 99,100 at the end of 1976, of which 86 per cent. were occupied. In the last two years about 4,500 married quarters have been passed to the Property Services Agency for disposal and about 1,600 hirings were released.
