HC Deb 13 February 1979 vol 962 c454W
13. Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what conditions were imposed by the Duchy of Cornwall when renewing the licence permitting the Army to continue its use of the Dartmoor National park for military exercises.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

The conditions are unchanged and include those normal between a landowner and licensee as well as conditions relating to military use. Those relating to military activities allow all kinds of training, including firing, but forbid the use of tanks or tracked vehicles. The Department undertakes to avoid damage to tors or ancient monuments, to fill in trenches and shell holes. and to clear unexploded shells. There are also provisions governing the direction of fire, and no new roads, tracks or buildings are to be constructed without the consent of the Duchy.
