HC Deb 13 February 1979 vol 962 cc459-60W
36. Mr. Churchill

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will give a full list of all the categories of civilian workers for the replacement or potential replacement of whom members of Her Majesty's Forces have, during the period of office of Her Majesty's Government, received some form of training.

Dr. Gilbert

Since 1974, Service men have received training in connection with only two industrial disputes—the firemen's strike in 1977–78 and the oil tanker drivers' dispute in 1978–79. In both cases training took place immediately prior to the deployment of Service men. In the case of the oil tanker drivers' dispute, training was limited to instructors and to those Service men who were deployed in Northern Ireland.
