HC Deb 05 February 1979 vol 962 c25W
Mr. Maurice Macmillan

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what proportion of job vacancies his Department estimates is notified to its offices and jobcentres.

Mr. Golding

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commisison, which is responsible for local employment offices—including jobcentres—that its staff conducted a special national survey of engagements and vacancies during 1977. The survey asked for details of all engagements made by a sample of employers over the period 7 April-8 July 1977, and of all vancacies with those employers which were unfilled on 6 May 1977.

The results show that over the period of the survey about 38 per cent. of all vacancies were notified to the local offices of the MSC in areas served by Jobcentres and 31 per cent. in areas served by employment offices.
