§ Mr. Hoyleasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what steps she is taking to have discussions with Trades Union Congress unions since the report of the Vice-Chancellors' Working Party on industrial democracy; and what action she is taking in relation to industrial democracy in the universities.
§ Mr. OakesI wrote to the central council for non-teaching staffs in universities on 2 November 1978 inviting representatives of the trade union side to discuss these matters with me early in 1979. ASTMS wrote on 19 January 1979 asking for a separate meeting. It is hoped that both meetings can be arranged within the next few weeks. It is for the universities themselves to take action in relation to industrial democracy within their organisations.
