HC Deb 05 February 1979 vol 962 cc70-1W
Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the total weekly consumption of heating oil for the Palace of Westminster; and if he will express this figure in terms of gallonage per cubic foot, or litreage per cubic metre if preferred.

Mr. Marks

Heating and hot water in the Palace of Westminster are normally provided by gas. Oil was used in the week ending 26 January because of heavy demand for gas generally, and 20,000 gallons were consumed. The volume of the buildings is not known sufficiently accurately to calculate the number of gallons per cubic foot.

Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the average daily recorded temperature in (a) the Members' Dining Room, (b) the Library and (c) the Liberal Members' office, in each working day of the last
