§ 22. Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the cost to each of the member States of the European Commission's new five-year fusion programme; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. EadieThe new fusion programme proposed by the Commission has yet to be agreed by the Council. If it were adopted without amendment the cost to the Community budget over the five years 1979 to 1983 would be 348.7 meua—about £235 million—of which 131.7 meua—about £90 million—is the sum already agreed by the Council for the JET project. It is not possible to allocate these sums between member States, as member States contribute to the Community budget as a whole and not separately to individual parts.
