HC Deb 05 February 1979 vol 962 cc12-3W
Mr. Whitlock

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what are his views on the level of imports of cheap foreign bicycles of questionable design and construction which emanate from countries where there appear to be hidden subsidies for such products; and whether, in the light of this threat to the British and European cycle industry, he proposes to press for an increase in EEC tariff levels.

Mr. Meacher

I have received no complaints that imported bicycles might be subsidised, but I am always ready to consider any evidence which may be put to me. Responsibility for bicycle standards falls to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Transport.
