asked the Secretary of State for Transport when it is hoped to commence work on the A436 route to bypass Cheltenham.

Mr. Horam

The A436 is not a trunk road and is the responsibility of Gloucestershire county council as highway authority. Discussions about the possible use of this route as a bypass of Cheltenham are taking place, but it is too early to forecast the outcome or a date for start of works.
