Mr. Kaufman

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many acres of derelict land there are in England; and what percentage these acres is of the total acreage of England.

Mr. King

At 1 April 1974, the latest date for which survey figures are available, 106,884 acres of derelict land were recorded for England, representing 0.33 per cent. of the total land area.

Mr. Kaufman

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many acres of derelict land there are in (a) the city of Manchester and (b) Greater Manchester; and what proportion these acres is of the total acreage in each of these areas.

At 1 April 1974, the latest date for which survey figures are available, 689 acres of derelict land were recorded for the city of Manchester and 8,410 acres for Greater Manchester, representing 2.4 per cent. and 2.7 per cent. respectively of their total land areas.
