HC Deb 17 December 1979 vol 976 cc14-5W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what action he intends to take to safeguard the future of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the Royal Postgraduate Medical School and the School of Oriental and African Studies.

Dr. Boyson

I am aware of the problems facing these three institutions of the University of London as a result of the Government's decision to remove progressively the current subsidy in respect of overseas students. The UGC is arranging a series of consultations with universities in the first half of 1980 about the implications of the Government's expenditure proposals and its consultations with the University of London will no doubt include consideration of the needs of the three institutions in question.
