§ Mr. John Carlisleasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science, in view of the decision which has prevented the children concerned from attending a school of their choice since 2 September, if he will as a matter of urgency make a direction in accordance with the provisions of section 37 of the Education Act 1944 for the placing of Clive Ramscar into the Challney school for boys and Claire Deale into Ickmeld high school in the county of Bedford.
§ Dr. BoysonNo. I understand that the local education authority has still to decide whether to take action in accordance with the provision of section 37(1)(3) of the Education Act 1944. My right hon. and learned Friend is not empowered to make a direction at this stage.
