HC Deb 17 December 1979 vol 976 c44W
Mr. Michael Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will seek to aboloish the present Post Office monopoly on the sale of stamps so that ordinary shopkeepers and banks can sell them.

Mr. Michael Marshall

The Post Office does not have a monopoly of the sale of stamps. Shopkeepers and banks are therefore at liberty to sell stamps although I understand that the Post Office does not offer them a discount on large purchases.
