asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they intend to give guidance to departments on their practices for paying people money to which they are legally entitled.

A report is being published today containing guidance on this subject. It is calledLegal Entitlements and Administrative Practices and has been written by an inter-departmental group of officials. The Government have approved the guidance recommended in the report. Departments will now review their practices in the light of those recommendations. Copies of the report are being placed in the Library.
