asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many convictions there were in 1978, in each county, in relation to the contravention of safety regulations on farms.

Mr. Mayhew

Her Majesty's Agricultural Inspectorate undertook 121 prosecutions during 1978. As a result 330 informations were laid resulting in a total of 295 convictions.

A total of 207 convictions arose from contraventions of regulations made under the Agriculture (Safety, Health and Welfare Provisions) Act 1956; eight from contraventions of the Agriculture (Poisonous Substances) Regulations 1975, and 80 from offences under the general provisions of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
